Radio Advert - Conventions
Soundbed - A soundbed is a complimentary device where an audio track which tends to be music runs underneath the narration of a radio advert, the volume is lowered to the point where it doesn't conflict with the primary audio track,
Voice over - A voice over is a simple narration over the top of the radio advert, it's purpose is to inform and educate the listener on the documentary.
Time, Date & Channel - in all radio adverts promoting a documentary it always informs the listener on the time the documentary will be aired, the day it will be aired on and the channel that the documentary will be broadcasted from.
Strapline - a strap line is essentially the theme of the documentary summed up in a sentence so the audience know what to expect from the documentary.
Clips from main body - Radio adverts take short clips from the documentary that are suitable to use for a radio advert, almost giving the audience tiny snippets to entice them to watch the documentary.
Dynamic style of edit - This is the editing style used to keep the advert dynamic and engaging, this is done by introduction of a various music tracks, volume gain and quick transition between clips from the main body and narration.
Constant Gain - This is where the sound fades out and another audio track fades in
Timing of radio advert - the timing of most radio adverts tend to be around 30secs, long enough to educate the listener about the documentary.
Thought provoking - Most radio adverts try to be thought provoking, so the listener will think more about the radio advert and then choose to watch the documentary.
